After Hurricane Helene did unspeakable damage to the NC mountain area, we needed to pivot our planned Fall Break. We decided on Raleigh, as we thought we could meet up with some friends at the State Fair. Our friends had to cancel, so we made the most out of the trip.
In 2022, we visited Raleigh and got to visit the History Museum, the state Legislature building, the Morgan Food Hall, and enjoyed the Amtrak train ride. This time around, we wanted to explore some different things. On Friday, we visited the Marbles children's museum for the first-time. This museum lived up to the hype and the kids played for a few hours.
On Saturday, we had tickets to see the Dueling Dinos at the Science Museum. This was special exhibit which walked through the first fossil ever found of two dinosaurs together. The dinosaurs died (possibly in battle - it's a matter of debate) and were buried together. They showed the fossils and technicians actively cleaning the rest of the fossils to eventually have two dinosaur skeletons. We then toured the Science Museum, which was amazing. The Museum had many special rooms opened where children could have hands on activities ranging from taxidermy to microscopes to 3-D printing. We then had lunch at Morgan Food Hall and went back near the hotel to the annual outdoor International Wine Festival. Amira loved the festival and spent most of the time dancing to the live bands. We had a nap, dinner and pool time.
On Sunday, we woke up, ate our buffet breakfast, did our pool time and went to the NC State Fair. This Fair is always amazing and the kids had a ball. It was their first time to the State Fair and they were in awe. We ate treats, rode rides, saw a few shows and walked miles.
Thanks Raleigh for another great weekend. Due to traffic and cost, we confirmed we love living elsewhere! Still pulling for Western NC as well.
