Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado) - July 2022

Another work trip presented an opportunity for a fancy kid-friendly hotel and a trip to a new state - Colorado.   We have never seen the Rocky Mountains, so we were excited.   Most importantly, It would be our first adventure as a family of four.

We arrived after a significant delays due to weather and it was 4am EST when we arrived at our hotel outside of Denver.

We woke up to see the sites around Golden.  In one day we saw:

Red Rocks - it lived up to the hype

Dinosaur Ridge - the site was amazing, kid-focused and we learned a lot of new things

Drove to see the wild Buffalo Herds - but the buffalo were hiding

We drove up the mountain to see the top of the ridge where Buffalo Bills was buried

We drive down the mountain on the other side to the town of Golden.   It is known for the world largest’s brewery with Coor’s Light and being a true mountain town.

We then headed to the new Gaylord Hotel outside of Denver.   I got a room with bunkbeds and we hit the pool area which was so great.

On Friday, we woke up to drive two hours to Rocky Mountain National Park.  We enjoyed exploring Estes Park for a few hours, including visiting the Shining Hotel.

We had a timed entry to the National Park and headed straight up to the Bear Lake Entry.   On the way up the mountain ridge, we learned A is plagued with altitude sickness like her mother.    She stayed in the car while D and I walked the one mile trail around the lake.   It was truly the best hike I have ever taken.   We then drove around and down the national park.   The views were as great as promised.

The next day we visited the city of Denver on the light rail.   We went on a walking tour of the city that I planned.  We saw Denver’s train station, Coors Field, Molly Brown house, State Capital, US Mint, Big Blue Bear Statue, Larmier Square and other places around the city.

For the rest of the week, the family enjoyed the kid-friendly hotel and even ventured out to the Wings over Rockies Air & Space museum while I was a conference.

We enjoyed Colorado and would like to venture back to explore more areas of the state.    The Rockies were majestic.
