Race day, sites, and a culinary tour

Today was race day in Barcelona. Neither of us are big enough fans to get up early for the lower tier races so we slept in a bit and left the hotel about 10:00 local (5:00 am eastern). Once again Lauren planned us a perfect breakfast and we were fueled up for our day after some local ham, pancakes, and an omelette.

The race itself was thrilling as the two best cars wrecked on the first lap, third turn; which left it open for basically anyone. For both non-fans and fans the fact that an 18 year old running his first race in the senior car won is stunning and it was widely talked about even amongst the Lewis Hamilton fans sitting all around us. The Finnish guys and I were pulling hard for Kimi Raikkonen but he couldn't get past the youngster and wound up second. Although it sure it wasn't the best day we've had, even Lauren liked this one.

We headed back to the city to see some of the free sites including a block of houses where a competition of oneupsmanship led to a whole block of crazy homes.

While walking, we also got sucked up into a protest of some kind; still no idea what. But who doesn't love a protest; so we joined for a bit until it got a little too real and the cops showed up.

From there we basically ate our way around the area as we found tapas at a few local places and ultimately ended up at an Italian restaurant run by Italians where the food was so good we are both about to crash. All in all a great day with much more to come.
