Struggle Metro

We have already seen a few different parts of the city,  but today we (literally) elevated that to the next level.  We partied a little too hard at our new local pub, Dow Jones, with the Brits so today was a struggle to get up and get moving.  We kept laughing about our age, as we rallied a lot better on our first trip.  We had a timed entrance to Park Guell.  Gaudi is the architect of Barcelona like Christopher Wren is for London.  He epitomizes Barcelona.  He built this park outside of the city for the views.  He is fanciful, so it is odd.  Sadly, his full vision of a neighborhood was never realized but the park was cool.  We went to a bar on our twenty minute decent down the steep hill & taught them about a mimosa.  They were intrigued.  Cava (the Spanish champagne) is so good & better with their fresh orange juice; although to be fair they did not know what a mimosa was until we asked for one and explained.

After that, we whisked over to the completely opposite part of the city to the mountain (Montjuic).   We took the funicular; as we all know I do not like cable cars. (Murren Switzerland on repeat in my mind). This part has the old city fort, the 1992 Olympic Stadium, the 1929 World Expo & the city's square.  Las Arenas, the old bull fighting venue is now a mall/food court/cinema.  This was my favorite European city square & I kept thinking how beautiful.

Then we jumped on another metro to head to the port.  We visited a great Maritime museum.  The museum's decor was amazing -look at this Spanish ship from the 1600s:

Then we saw the Christopher Columbus statue.  He left from this exact port to find America!  And so we had to walk down to that port & sit a bit.

Now we are doing what we do best-wasting time hopping from place to place to try new drinks & food.  I really love this aspect of Barcelona.

Tomorrow is a full day & I still owe a post about my view of the city itself.
